European enlargement: opportunities and risks for a sustainable landscape development in the border region Styria – Slovenia
Project duration: 2000 - 2002
The eastward enlargement of Europe is a big challenge for the involved regions. The border regions to the reform countries are affected particulary. In this project the border region between Styria and Slovenia (Radkersburg/Gornja Radgona) was analysed: This region shows the problems and inconsistencies between the EU – eastward enlargement on one hand and the EU regional development on the other hand: on the Austrian side the fear of change is prevalent, whereas on the Slovenian side chances and possibilities are perceived first.
