Black Stork (Ciconia nigra)

The Black Stork is the shy relative of the White Stork. It breeds in large undissected and well-structured forests with creeks and wet meadows. The usually monogamous couple builds big nests in old trees and on rocks. The food consists mainly of fish, but the Black Stork also eats other small animals and water plants. As it dislikes human disturbances, border region forests have been an ideal habitat. Compared to the White Stork the Black Stork is able to express itself by a variety of different sounds. In autumn it migrates to Africa.
