The Central European Green Belt contains two coastal regions:
The Baltic Sea is the biggest brackish water sea in Europe with manifold habitats like open sea, sand banks, estuaries, coastal inlets, dunes, cliffs or salt meadows. Many bird species breed there. Rare migrating fishes like River and Sea Lamprey and Salmon can be found.
At the Adriatic coast the lagoons of Grado and Marina, partly drained, show several intertwining canals and river meanders forming muddy or sandy banks, and are an important resting and breeding area for freshwater and marine species.
