Natural forests

The forests along the Green Belt count among the most natural and undissected forests of Central Europe. Depending on location and subsoil there is a broad spectrum of forest communities like the beech forests of Rügen, coniferous forests of Harz and Sumava, thermophile oak forests of Thaya valley, Morava's, Mura's and Drava's soft- and hardwood forests, oak and beech forests from Lake Ferto to the Orség (Hungary), Alpine dwarf pine forests and several more. Many shy species are living in these natural forestes like Lynx, Black and Hazel Grouse, Capercaillie and Black Stork.
