LNC project Lenzener Elbe Floodplain

The Elbe floodplain near castle Lenzen is of national importance for the preservation of typical floodplain habitats. It shows a high potential for the development of natural alluvial forests. The intention of the project, funded by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, is to re-establish a floodplain landscape of 4km2 with undisturbed water regime by relocation of an embankment. Endangered species like Beaver, Corncrake, Red-bellied toad, Tree Frog and White-tailed Eagle will benefit of the newly established softwood and hardwood forests.
