The Alpine meadows of the Karavanke mountains, grazed by sheep, cattle and goats belong to the well-known Alpine scenery and house many species like orchids, gentians, daffodils and butterflies. These habitats are disappearing because of the proceeding land abandonment. A bilateral Interreg III a project (Slovenia-Italy) surveys these habitats and develops a concept for the preservation, which shall form the basis for joint management plans.
