This hiking trail illustrates the Green Belt in the Wartburg county on a length of 387 km. After a long period of planning and organising the county administration started in 2005 to realise the construction of the trail. 31 ino tables from the former border town Treffurt In the Werra mountains to the Biosphere reserve Rhön illustrate the history of the border and its effects on the local population. The trail integrates also stations on both sides of the border in Thuringia and Hesse. Experience of nature and traces of history complement each other. At the moment a continuation to the adjacent county Schmalkalden – Meiningen is in preparation.
