Little Tern

The Little Tern is one of the species, that has suffered strongly from river regulation, sediment extraction, pollution and human disturbance. In the 19th century it has been a common migratory bird on European coasts and rivers, breding in colonies on sand or gravel banks. Today there are few remaining habitats, e.g. Vistula/ Odra in Poland, Sava in Croatia and Drava at the border between Hungary and Croatia. The Drava population is strongly threatened because of the river regulation and sediment extraction.
